As much as I wanted to use bridged mode when I first got my DUET, I eventually gave up and went with the alternate. I think I have a lot less issues with the controller now. Actually, I can't remember the last controller issue I had. Maybe try connecting your controller to your router just to see if the same is true for your setup.
