It's a really old thread, and despite reading a few of the posts a few times, i'm still not really sure what the status of gapless playback of WMA is. Woks in some cases, fails in others. Seems a little unpredictable to me.
I would guess that part of the problem is that Miscrosoft are so closed about their audio format. I'm not saying it's broken because it isn't open source, it's just that they don't really tell you anything about the codecs at all, there is a lot of messing around and experimenting.
