One thing you may want to consider is that a big set of cans like the HD280 have a higher impedance than most earbuds. Therefore they will not get as loud, unless you run a headphone amp.
The HD280's have an impedance of 64 @ 1kHz, the UE5's have an impedance of 13 @ 1kHz. An impedance of 64 BTW is considered to be as high as you want to go for a portable device. For me a set of good earbuds will be a much better match for the Squeezebox Controller.
