Thanks everyone for chiming in. The depth of this thread is going way over my head. I have no idea what upnp is.. Well, then again, I had no idea what NAS was until a few days ago, when I started searching the internet.
Basically, my wife and I would like to aggregate all our music files into one drive. I can let her transfer her music files in her laptop to my desktop or even my laptop, but I thought it would be more convenient if she could access the "centralized" storage regardless of whether my PC/laptop is turned on or off. Similarly, I thought it would be better if my SB Boom could access the network-attached "central" storage directly without having to negotiate through my desktop where the SqueezeCenter currently resides.
