I really think it has to do with your router.  Do you have a place that
you buy with a good return policy?  It's what I would try next.  Get a
good wireless router (I assume you would like wireless in the end) and
see if it solves the problem.  This would at least eliminate the router
as the problem and I bet you'll find this is the cause.  Also try
running music from your computer and see if this cut's out too.  Set up
a 4 hr playlist and see.  It could be your connection.  I'd probably try
this first as a test.  Main thing is to eliminate the most obvious stuff
before tearing your hair out over settings and stuff.  Lots of problems
are in the routers if they are older and even in some new ones.
