Moving rapidly OT: Do you mean that M$ never did any OS development? That's a bit unfair, even if most of it was done 15+ years ago to re-implement VMS on x86. M$ was reportedly a big user of Linux and Apache in the olden days, i.e. when MSN.com was rolled out. The IIS boxes could not handle the load, so Linux (I think about RedHat 5) was silently installed.
