Yes, iPeng 1.0.4 is much more responsive, yet it has less
functionality, yet. It does not yet support plugins and also the
"NowPlaying" plugins are not yet implemented.

Regarding the "Volume soft keys", are you talking about the up/down
arrows on the NowPlaying plugins page (right swipe)? Those were done
for a special application, you access the regular volume slider as in
the iPod application: by tapping the cover art on NowPlaying
