I run a HDX-1000 which uses the same software as the PCH. The disadvantage of the PCH - as I understood it - is that it tends to run hot, while the HDX doesn't. Otherwise they are mostly identical. I have a similar setup as yours and I chose not to put an internal hard disk in the HDX. The HDX streams HD video (over 100 mbit ethernet) off my server disk just fine and not having a fan, is now completely quiet, like the SB3 on top of it.
