OK, building it with the static libs set explicitly seems to do the
trick; I gave it to a friend to try out and it ran without any errors.
He wasn't able to get it to connect to my server over the net though (I
believe I had the right ports open on my router) but this may be a
separate issue.

If this actually works, I'd be happy to try and set up some kind of
automated build-process that builds a new binary from nightly pulls
