Ok the disc you used is it a pure XP disc from Microsoft or is from the laptop manufacturer ? check your hardware settings if you have a lot of these yellow "?". Laptop's are a bit special, it's no guarantee that win-xp has the best drivers for it's hardware the "graphic card" is often an on board chip of some kind, same with the sound. If this is the problem you probably have to search on the internet and download drivers for most of the things in it. I reinstalled an Ibm p40t at work the other day, that lead to a hunt for a lot of drivers on ibm's/lenovo's homepage. For example i had no drivers for the network card ,sound and barely working ones for the graphic.
