Great post, thanks for the info. I think your biggest problem originally was wireless. Even if your signal looks good, it could be getting "packet drop" due to interference from other stuff. Also running squeezecenter on the laptop was the source of a lot of problems. Your setup had to copy the same music file over wifi 3 times just to get to one squeezebox.
