Although you can control the SBR via browser, I think the SB line is really much better when you control it via remote (either the infrared that comes with the SB3 or with the SBC). It's way more convenient than using a pc, even a netbook.
Don't worry too much about waiting for the next-rumored-device. After you have one SB you'll most likely want another. And another.
