Yeah, I was afraid such damage from an outside source would not be covered. Can't blame them. I'd still try the credit card "extended warranty" route (if that is available to you). If yes, get a written repair estimate even if it says "we do not repair such ethernet hardware problems, we only offer a full unit replacement under warranty" or something similar. Obviously it cannot say "this type of failure is not covered under warranty". :)
