Otherwise I wouldn't recommend it to someone else. I was doing that sincerely because their products seem to fit the needs of users just like the one you described. I have considered various Apple products, but usually they lose out because of compatibility problems, such as software I need for work, or what type of email server my employer supports, or getting a 4GB Sansa + 8GB SD card for $50.

Considering your aversion to ripping and tagging that you noted in the OP, I assumed that those solutions were out of the running.
