There are various options, depending on where you are initiating the synchronisation from. On Windows, SyncToy is a fairly decent option. Don't know if this'll still work from WHS. As you say, search is your best option. But, why sync? There is an option to stop iTunes messing with your music files, and let it just read the metadata. Have you tried iTunes 9?
