I remember the early days of streaming music when I had a Rio Receiver. The software came out with the product and was never again updated. Ever. That really sucked.
I get the impression that the folks behind this are making a genuine effort to improve the product/software combination. When I get the feel that it's for worthwhile for me, I upgrade. If not, I wait. I have had my share of issues over time, but this works for me.
