What's your upload speed from your home network connection, and what bitrate is your player expecting at work?
I'm suspecting your work <-> home connection is not fat or reliable enough in both directions to handle the amount of data being pushed through. Test this by lowering the players bit rate as much as possible via the web interface. For you home situation, it does seem like you are experiencing network troubles in general.
