If the Touch could be extended in such a manner, would the audio still sync with the video on the TV?
As for the OP, if he doesn't have variable audio outputs on the TV, he probably needs a preamp. I'm also dealing with a similar setup, and I've been looking high and low for a budget preamp with a remote. It's almost bizarre that such devices are few and far between.
