You are -already- on a never ending journey... :-) I paid NZ$700 for the AV-8, as new (ex-demo). I saw one on ebay UK go for 236 UKPD recently. Rotel do similar things - Rotel RSP1069 for example, although I think they generally include video processing. The chap I bought the AV-8 off reckoned it sounded a bit better than his RSP1069. In turn I reckon it sounds a bit worse than my Cambridge DacMagic, but still better than the SB3 analogue out. Another option might be a 2nd hand home theatre amp, just use it as a preamp/processor and feed RCA outputs to the AE5's. These things go quite cheaply as the enthusiasts upgrade to ones with the latest codecs and video connections. Downside is they are usually quite beefy bits of kit - the AV8 is relatively compact. Or use the situation as an excuse for a new TV...? grum -- grum ------------------------------------------------------------------------ grum's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=17720 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=70942 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
