As an original Squeezebox owner who then purchased a Sonos system
(ZP100/120 & ZP90) along with that awful controller I think Im qualified
to reply ;) I have since sold the Sonos system and settled with the
Squeezebox Classic range.

The sound quality of the ZP100/120 is suitable for background, a good
use would be in the toilet or lift! it's terrible. Just taking the
analogue output from these player and using a budget hi-fi amp really
make a big difference.

was able to compare the ZP90 to the SB3, via analogue, same files, to
the same amp. To my ears the SB3 was better.

Sono's wins on an easy to use solution that is 100% robust (except
when the microwave is running), however closed and no "tinkering" or
adjusting in the way that Squeezebox can be customised. Sure there are a
lot of posts with people having problems here but if you hardwire at
least part of your network and run stable software you should be quite
safe from gremlins.
