I have the same problem. It started appearing after I installed lame in the \server\bin folder on my WinXP machine; don't know if this has anything to do with it?
When I tried starting slimserver using the tray icon, it kept blinking "SlimServer starting" for hours without actually fully starting. I also tried to start it using the description above (cmd window), but it gave me these messages: slimsvc installed as SlimServer. Starting SlimServer...... SlimServer failed to start. I tried starting SlimServer in the Services application, where it was listed as stopped, and it reported that it started then stopped. I even tried removing the service and then restarting it using the cmd prompt, but it didn't work. So what should I do? Everything worked fine until a couple of days ago when I installed lame by copying all lame files to the \server\bin folder? After that i realized that only the lame.exe should be copied there, and removed the other files. Could it have something to do with that? Thanks for your help.
