My basic question is: what software is making the display on the
Transporter do its right to left scrolling? Is the data sent once to
the Transporter processor and then it's responsible for animating it
(i.e. repainting it repetitively, but several pixels to the left with
each repaint)? Or is it somehow updated by the squeeze box server over
the network (and competing with the stream of audio data)?

The reason I ask is that I've kept up with each and every update of
squeeze server over the last two years or so and it seems that as more
features get added to squeeze server it slows down. I spent my career
building commercial software products and I learned the hard way that
size and performance are one and the same. I was wondering if the
bigger size of squeeze server (a bigger working set, perhaps) is
causing it to run slower with each release.
