I'm with ya on that. I firmly believe they do that to gain revenue from people that forget or can't be bothered to cancel their subscription. Then there are those that make it nearly impossible or inconvenient to cancel. Yet, it always seems SUPER convenient to sign up for the "trial". My favorite is when you can sign up online, yet have to call a number during regular business hours to cancel.
