180 meters of good quality Cat6 might work just fine for your purpose, at least if you pair and terminate the wires correctly, and have a quality switch in each end. Unless you live directly beneath a high voltage power line, that is. But there's disagreement about the maximum length:
"CAT-6 and CAT6e is rated to 550M or 1000M depending on your source" http://www.connectworld.net/syscon/support.htm "The maximum allowed length of a Cat-6 cable is 100 meters (330 ft) when used for 10/100/1000baseT." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_6_cable#Maximum_Length You could consider going for coaxial cable (10base5, obsolete but good for 500 meters and 10 mbps which is more than enough for your Squeezebox) or fiber optics (fancier and more expensive). -- Soulkeeper ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Soulkeeper's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=35297 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=79140 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
