It would help to know what type of Squeezebox you're talking about. For the SB Radio or Boom you need to turn the device on to set the alarm, and in that sense the built-in speakers will be "powered on." Even so, they won't necessarily make any sound. If you disable the Radio's beeps and blurps that go with menu navigation the speakers won't make any sound. And the Boom doesn't make any beeps and blurps.
