Does Logitech actually expect the > sound equipment (receiver, speakers etc) to be on 24/7? No, not unless the user expects to use it as an alarm 24/7. The Touch is not designed to be an alarm clock, but as a high quality digital audio player. The internal speaker is solely intended for the audio feedback (beeps, blips, etc.) associated with menu navigation. It will work as you intend only if it is connected to an amp with auto-sensing inputs or self-powered speakers.
It may be possible to ssh into the Touch and changes some of the software options to redirect the audio output to the Touch's internal speakers, but I'm not sure about that. -- aubuti Nothing high-end, but music anywhere I want it, and it's '100% wind powered' (http://www.cleancurrents.com/).
