Here is my makefile. It's based on the makefile.linux26-armel-oss file. I just added the lirc, ncurses and alsa support. Used the same tool chain as noted in the oss make file. I only had to add the lirc-client, ncurses and alsa libs and headers (copied from my dockstar).
I think it does not hurt to enable lirc without display. Sure, you can't choose new files, but volume, next/prev and play/pause works fine.
