If the /dev/dsp? device is already open by another program, squeezeslave will not be able to use it. I don't know anything about the Synology. Are you using a USB sound card? If not, could you try plugging one in and see if -L lists a device then? 0.9-129 has hanging issues with internet streams unless you're running the latest 7.6 builds. If you can't recompile the latest version of squeezeslave and are running an older server version, you can work around it by applying this 'patch' (http://squeezeslave.googlecode.com/svn/squeezeslave/trunk/squeezeslave/patches/httpsocketclose.patch) to the server side, provided it's not running on windows.
