If you are running Windows, you will need to install lame.exe from
here:

http://www.rarewares.org/mp3-lame-bundle.php

You don't need the .dll: just put lame.exe in program
files/squeezebox/server/bin/MSWin...

The settings/player/audio screen will indicate whether or not lame is
properly installed.
