This workaround works well on real Squeezeboxes (Boom, SB2, etc). However, it does not work when using the iPad / SqueezePad itself as the playback device. The file handle remains open in this case, even after powering off the iPad completely.
The Squeezeserver setting to stop the track on pause only works for a real Logitech device and not for the ipad. It doesn't apply when trying to set it for the iPad. I guess I'll just have to make sure I always play a track until the end and not pause mid track when using the iPad as playback device.
