The good news is that you can use the infrared that comes with the Touch, which is also available as a separate item from Logitech in many countries. The bad news is that the UK doesn't appear to be one of those countries. If you can somehow get your hands on a Touch remote, that would be the easiest option. It is available in the US, for now at least (http://buy.logitech.com/store/logib2c/en_US/DisplayCategoryProductListPage/categoryid.28136200).
Another possibility is that one of the fragile connections in the remote has broken, and can be fixed by re-soldering the connection.
