Ok, added a forwarding rule for port 3483, but it didn't help.
And yes, it really is saying 'WiFi connecting ...' and not 'Connecting
via Wifi' (with the 3 dots being animated, first one dot, then two,
then three, etc...).

For completeness. This is the scenario.
* I'm at work and have access to a hotspot.
* My phone always has Wifi enabled so it just connects to the Hotspot
(as it has Wifi wide open - no encryption).
* I then browse to the hotspot's login page and enter my
userid/password.
* From now on my phone is connected to the internet through Wifi.
* I then setup a NeoRouter connection to my home address. This
connection automatically also forwards whatever ports from localhost
(127.0.0.1) I instruct it to. E.g. I already had setup port 29000 to
remotely connect to my Squeezebox Server port 9000. The same goes for
port 29090 into 9090 for the CLI. These rules work as I can connect
SqueezeCommander (with the custom port numbers) to 127.0.0.1.
* So I now added an extra rule to forward port 3483 to the same port at
the other end.
