Could you run some sort of tagging program that lets you inspect the tags ?
I don't know what's best on Mac, but just to inspect if you have tags at all, you could try TAG, http://sbooth.org/Tag/ Lets start with finding out if you have tags at all - or if squeezebox server simply added them by file names...
