yep, mp3tag can work very well. Essentially, you load up your files,
then use the menu item "convert" then "filename to tag". Then from here
you get a popup with a "mask" that you can map directory names,
subdirectory names, file names, spaces, characters, etc. to the
appropriate field names (%field name%).  Play around with it a bit and
you'll see how it works.
