Yes, that was actually made for Yachts.
I am not sure they actually still use the functionality.
However, it was built with custom media PCs running a software player
(SqueezeSlave in this case, I believe).
I would use something like Raspberry Pis with SqueezeLite and USB Audio,
I think that has a good value for money and all the flexibility you
want. If you find 5 years from now that LMS is no longer supported but
there's something else, you'll probably have a chance to migrate the
software.
