It has already been stated on this thread and the Community Squeeze announcement thread - the initial hardware is focussed on high quality audio playback. It will support HDMI and IR over USB for its own UI as that's easy to achieve and almost free from a hardware perspective.
However what people should focus on is that it is part of the LMS based eco system and can be controlled by anything which controls LMS players - the web interface, third party apps such as iPeng and SqueezePad, cli as well as the HDMI based UI. So you can choose what you want, but there's no investment in screens or other UI components from the hardware perspective. Now if only we could hardness all the brainpower on this thread to help with the development and testing...
