It's generally not unusual to let one part of a business cover the costs of another part depending on where it's easiest to get people to pay. I'm not promising anything, I'm just saying that you shouldn't assume that you have to pay for all parts, but you are correct that each user will likely have to directly or indirectly pay for some parts of the system.

If people are assuming it's commercial for our personal gain, they couldn't be more wrong, it commercial because we believe it's the only way to make the platform what we want it to be. Also, combining this with third party developers willing to spend their spare time to implement extra features and offer them as free or commercial add-ons is a great way to be able to support more advanced users like many people in this community. We have seen what a combined environment with both commercial and non commercial interests can accomplish on the Squeezebox and we want to accomplish a similar community feeling with ickStream. This extensibility together with documented API's is what's making ickStream an open platform compared to Sonos and other similar closed platforms who relies on the manufacturer doing all the work. If we can't prioritize something ourselves, there is always going to be an opening for a third party developer to provide it for free or as a commercial add-on. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ erland's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=3124 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98467 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
