Is there any way to be able to to exclude a dir and sub-dirs from random play?
Not dirs, but genres: just tag your files appropriately, and you can easily exclude "kids" etc. from the mix.
Alternatively, I would look at using browse folders for just these tracks, however browse folders only includes folders that are scanned...
No, the "Browse Music Folder" menu even often is used to play things which have not been scanned yet.
