Are you using USB CD/DVD drive or internal (SATA or IDE?)?

I have experienced some similar problems with USB drive that is powered
from USB port and in my case the problem was that the CD drive didn't
get enough power from USB port.

What do you mean "CD status screen"? What was the text on the screen?
Was there "CD information"?
