Raid is just another thing... All -my- Raid Adapters (did i wrote that my job is managing servers and networks already?) have more Power than any lightweight or called here - more efficient system- Processor just for the XOR doing things thats needed for a raid. Another issue why "energy efficient" is just a -buzz word-. He should get a NAS with Red WD Disks. And just again... You cant backup a bunch of disks on one disk - if they are all the same size.
