Sorry, I don't understand. How can the SB be "only 25' from the router"
but at the same time be "too far"? The suggestion was to use the wired
connection for _testing_ purposes. As others have noted, a 10m ethernet
cable is inexpensive. 

Signal strength in the low-40s is fairly borderline for streaming music,
especially if you stream anything at relatively high bitrates (for
online services, that is) such as 192kbps. So if the wired tests resolve
your problems and you don't want to (or can't) run ethernet cable on a
more permanent basis then something like homeplug ethernet may be a
solution for you. But the first step is to test the wired connection.
