Thanks, Daniel. I'm installed for a user named "slimserver" and not for
all users. I don't log on under this account and have the server set to
start on boot.
I've tried your suggestion to no avail. Mplayer just dies after starting
up. The puzzling thing is that mplayer can be run from the terminal
under the slimserver login (playing a BBC stream) with settings as you
suggest.
Any more suggestions, please?

Dear All,
I'm using AlienBBC for the first time - all up and running (apart
from the live stream
problems that I've seen mention of elsewhere). This is on Mac OS X
and SlimServer 6.2.0
with mplayer from the ffmpegXbinaries20050814 archive. I've had to
make my mplayer binary
have a root suid to get it to work with SlimServer, thus:
-rwsr-xr-x 1 root slimserv 7304968 14 Aug 18:05 /usr/bin/mplayer
Just to double check. Your version of SlimServer is installed for all
users?
Mine is installed just for me, and my mplayer has user myshortname,
group admin.
I had to set the group to admin manually, as mplayer did not work with
the group being myshortname.
