AFAIK, Squeezeplug is primarily a server, with an option to include a
player. You can make a standalone player like a Squeezebox with a
Raspberry Pi + Squeezelite.

That's basically a very small installation file (25MB) which does exactly what you want: turn your Pi into a SB player.

1. The Raspberry Pi's onboard audio is of rather poor quality. You'd
need to hook up an external DAC to get decent results.

HiFiBerry and the Wolfson DAC built for the Pi might be viable alternatives.
