It's not a big deal, but I was thinking something along these lines would look nice. It's pretty much the same approach - an off the shelf extruded case with custom end panels. Making the panels a little larger than the case's WxH dimensions eliminates the edge pieces that the other panels are set into. The only difference (at probably a small cost) would be that the edges of the penels need some degree of attention to finishing. There's not really anything to invent.
