Heh. As a result of this discussion, I revisited some of the classic AES papers. One, from 1999, states "Clearly, to obtain the goal of music conservation, new standards are needed. One way to go would be to establish a set of gentleman processing rules that need to be followed in order for the CD to get a DRA stamp, a Dynamic Range Approval."
