I am aware that this thread is rather old, but it is the best match I could find. I apologize if things I am going to write have been discussed before, but I have been reading a lot already, and I don't feel like reading another 31 pages right now.
I like the idea of having an intermediate service in order to create synergies and make streaming music from multiple sources easier for everyone. Unfortunately, the implementation comes at a time when Logitech have almost stopped to develop their platform. The reason why I am following the development of ickStream is that WiMP keep pushing me towards TIDAL. Right now, this is not much of an option for me. I am in a situation where I can stream the entire WiMP music catalog without having to power up my LMS. If I had to run the machine all day, the energy costs would almost sum up to the equivalent of my WiMP subscription. This is why I am not so happy about the fact that ickStream requires me to run an LMS. I know that there are plans for an app that runs in the Touch or Radio, but Radio is not much more than an alarm clock, and I have no plans of buying a Touch any time soon. My main player is a Transporter, and considering the focus of ickStream on lossless sources, it is a perfect match. The question is how the two could be married. I don't know much about mysb development, but I would think that if a company wants to stop developing plug-ins for new music sources and save maintenance costs, it would make absolute sense to integrate an ickStream plug-in and leave any future developments to you guys. Any problems which still exist in existing proprietary plug-ins would no longer be of concern. The only plug-in still requiring maintenance would be the new one. And if software development in the past has not gone entirely crooked ways, the existing LMS plug-in should be a good starting point for a mysb plug-in. Alternatively, ickStream could provide your own mysb service, presumably with no plug-ins but the ickStream plug-in. Maybe in anticipation of mysb being terminated at some point in the future, this isn't such an entirely absurd idea. I don't know whether any of my ideas make sense commercially, but from an environmental point of view, it would be an advantage to run one central service instead of hundreds of LMSs running in individual households. Just my two cents. scaleo home server 2105 | logitech media server 7.8.1 - 1415795164 | server power control 20120427.163654 | transporter & duet & boom & radio | rotel rc-995 & rmb-100 | phonar p-5 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ mvordeme's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=22892 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=98467 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
