I have an old RPi lying around on which I was thinking of installing piCorePlayer and use as a small inexpensive headphone listening station. However, I heard that the jack on the RPi is not very good to use with headphones (in this case I would probably be using a pair of Beyerdynamic Dt990). The sound is low quality and not very loud.
I looked into the HifiBerry but the jack on the DAC+ is explicitly stated as not suitable for headphones. The HifiBerry AMP does not seem to have a headphone jack either. So now I am wondering what it would take make the setup reasonable? Is there some alternative to the HifiBerry that does work with headphones? Or would it be better to get the HifiBerry DAC and a small external headphone amp?
