To really get a "good" sound out of a set of headphones like that you
will need a "good" amp. I have spent (wasted:p) a lot of time at
Head-Fi.org) trying to figure out a "good" set up and finally bought a
Grace M9XX. It's 500 dollars new from MassDrop when they actually sell
them. But the amp that is readily available is the O2 JDS Labs you can
get a amp & DAC for under 400 maybe closer to 300. The amp by itself
would be about 125.
I use a laptop with Squeezeplay installed and feed the the Grace M9XX
and I can get it to run the ASIO driver so I can listen to Spotify in
better fidelity but I can also use my main desktop system and control
the laptop Squeezeplay such that the desktop audio doesn't interfere
with the Squeezeplay.
I have a set of Grados that can be driven by a iphone but sound so much
better when driven through the Grace amp. I tried the jack out of my
Touch and it was acceptable but after setting up this system I don't
want to "go back."
I recommend reading some of the Head-Fi discussions on amps and yes a
lot of it personal bias but there is some good information. I don't own
a set of Beyerdynamics but that model from what I read needs an fairly
powerful amp to sound good.
