Hi, I noticed now this thread. 
My opinion, because I use it, is that a HiFiBerry dac with 3,5 jack is
enough to drive an headphone (also if they say no). I use a Sennheiser
HD540 Reference that is not, sure, a simple headphone to drive. The
volume is not so loud, but for normal listening is very very good. Also,
the HiFiBerry is able to stay in the small enclosure (only drill a hole
for the jack) and no external dac, cable or big case!!

P.S.: The audio of the Raspberry is HORRIBLE!!
