I still have my SB 3 - and use it some - with my main/family room stereo, an NAD receiver, a set of PSB speakers, an Oppo universal player.
That said, my daughter bought me a set of Sonos Play:1 speakers for my 60th birthday and it utterly changed my listening life. I suppose if you have very, very nice stereo equipment this won't do, but as reviewers have noted, the Play:1s punch way above their weight. They're very flat out of the box and the Sonos room tuning is a subtle, but welcome addition. To the point: I have a few thousand CDs, lots of FLAC/ALAC files, as noted a decent stereo, good headphones, and a love of tinkering. But I still use the Sonos about 90 percent of the time - it sounds that good. Spotify at 320 kpbs ogg is indistinguishable from lossless to my ears. (At 60, my ears are the ultimate hard limit; I have tinnitus and hearings loss above 12-13K). My listening habits have changed as well; I listen to far fewer complete albums, and far more radio and radio-like things. Pandora, Slacker and TuneIn get at least 50 percent of my time. Again, I still like and use my Squeezebox, and have a Boom and Duet on the shelf. But I get why Sonos is so popular, even among those of us who couldn't care less about lifestyle products. s. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ satkinsn's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=11398 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=106703 _______________________________________________ discuss mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/discuss
